Taking care of your hair is super important. Sometimes you need to give it a little TLC and a good deep conditioning. I've been in the sun and in and out the pool so my hair needs a little extra attention. So I wanted to share my deep conditioning.  One of favorites deep conditioning products is, Cantu's Shea Butter Leave In Conditioning Repair Cream!

After I wash my hair I slather my hair in this stuff pin it up and pop on a shower cap (you can buy a pack of 50 them at the beauty supply store or Sally's for really cheap or collect some from a hotel :). I let marinate for at least one hour. Sometimes longer. Rinse and that's it!! I know it says "leave in", but sometimes I do what I want! ;p

Newbie Premium Hair Extension Question Answered~ Single Drawn VS Double Drawn Hair

Hey Y'all!

So lets discuss the differences between Single & Double Drawn Hair and hopefully this post will help :)

Double Drawn ~The hair is cut from the root and mid back so that each hair is the same length for a thicker fuller weft. Most all the hairs are the same length. Shorter hair strands removed, so all of the hair strands are very close to the same length. It is also slightly heavier than single drawn hair.

Single Drawn ~ The hair is cut usually starting at mid back across the top only, leaving the ends in their natural state. You will find shorter lengths throughout the hair because it is the hair at the end of the donors hair.

Wagman Perfectress Update & Products I Use

Hey Y'all,

I made a "quick" video update about my Wagman's Natural Body Hair Extensions :) I apologize that my videos are so far behind. I'm still getting used to recording and becoming comfortable talking to the camera without an audience (besides the one in my head). I tying my best to be myself and to quit saying "umm" so much. It also takes me a long time to edit. I'm learning to "get it right" the first time because that means less editing :) It's really hard to put yourself out there.

I use the following products on my hair. Which I mentioned in the video.

Shampoos & Conditioners ~ Wagman's Perfectress Shampoo and Conditioner, Herbal Essences Hello Hydration Conditioner (I kinda mix the Perfectress and Herbal Essences together because I'm a weirdo).

When I feel like I have a lot of product build-up in my hair I use Suave Natural's Daily Clarifying Shampoo, I can't find the Pantene Clarifying Shampoo any more :( . I find that the Suave Clarifying Shampoo can be a little drying so I don't use it often.

Styling & Maintenance Products

Water & Infusium 23 Leave-In Treatment  mixed together in a spray bottle. 60% water and 40% Infusiam (I found a huge 16oz bottle of Infusium at Big Lots for $4 :)

Perfectress Smoothing Moisturizing Spray

Frizz-Ease Dream Curls Spray

 

This is not a comprehensive list. I don't put a lot of products on my hair and I don't use all the products mentioned on daily basis. These are what I find myself using the most. I will do a in-depth run down soon.

Wagman's Perfectress Indian Hair Extensions ~ Will It Hold A Curl?

Hey Y'all!!!!

I finally decided to flat iron my hair the other day which meant that I could try curling it with a curling iron instead of rocking it in its wavy (natural body) state.

I used a heat protectant and a 1 1/4" barrel curling iron.

I used to wear my hair like this pretty much everyday. It usually takes me less than 15 mins to curl my entire head. I have it down to a  no nonsense science.  It took me 30-45 mins to curl this hair. It took me so long because I'm a bit rusty, haven't curled my hair in weeks. It's a new install and very full so there's more hair to curl.I usually curl in sections and I had to make a few more sections..

 

Results & Thoughts

So far I feel like this hair has the potential to hold a curl. I just have to figure out what it "wants".

I found that the curls in the back pretty much fell on the left side before I was even finished with the right side. So I had to go back and re-curl. (>_<)

I think I was using to much hair for each curl I noticed that the smaller ones had more staying power *duh*

I also forgot that curling 22" hair is harder to curl than shorter lengths (even 18''-20"). There's way more hair than length on the curling iron. In the back on the bottom I had to curl the top half then work my way down as opposed to just wrapping it around the curling iron.

Longer voluminous hair is heavy and you can't fight gravity.

I also didn't use any hairspray. It's earth day weekend and Atlanta already has a huge ozone issue, which I can probably be blamed for. Not the whole thing, just a tiny part of the ozone.

By the time I came home it was straight again.   :(

This probably makes no sense at all, but when I had Malaysian hair from the same vendor I had the same issue with the hair holding a curl. I noticed over time that it did hold a curl. To the point where it would pretty much stay curly for days, it wouldn't fall flat.

Since I really like this hair wavy, I don't want to flat iron and curl it too much because I've found that applying high heat on a very frequent basis tends to "heat train" the wave pattern can change.

Overall

Yes, I think that this hair can hold a curl under the right conditions. I curled it again the next night and curled smaller sections and I noticed a huge difference. The top is still voluminous and the ends are still curled under.

P.S. I know y'all are wondering why I didn't take pictures of the back of my hair?? I tried and the pics came out really blurry. I was going to ask my friend to do it at the place we went to that night but the lighting in there was dark and my friends already think I'm vain so I didn't want to ask them to take pics of the back of my head... ;p

*I am basing this review based on the location and the employees that I personally dealt with. I went to the salon about 3 weeks ago. I took detailed notes on my phone so I would be able to recall the small details and keep track of the time.

Their Promise: Atlanta's Best $50 Weave Salon

My Expectations: After my previous "weave mill" experience (you can read it here), my expectations weren't very high I wasn't planning on going there, but I was in a bind. The stylist that I was going to try out dropped off the face of the earth.

So I decided to either go here or to The Weave Shop because I needed to find a walk-in type of place. I picked The Weave Express because the receptionist was very polite on the phone and answered all of my questions without an attitude. I had a closure that I wanted to use and I wanted to make sure that they had a stylist that new how to install it.

She politely placed me on hold and confirmed that they did and gave me the stylists name. She also gave me what I felt was an honest indicator of how long the wait could be. I learned from my last "weave mill" experience that if they are acting a hot mess over the phone then I need to keep it moving.

Initial Impressions: Clean- This location is new, I believe this location opened in February. The salon was very clean,neat and organized. No hair all over the place. All of the stylists stations were neat.

Colorful- Their color scheme was really cute. The walls are bright green and pink and everything matched their pink, green and black theme.

Music- R&B played throughout the salon. The other salon that I went to sounded like the club...

Friendly- I was greeted as soon as I walked in by the receptionist. She remembered our conversation on the phone and re-confirmed that Tiffanie would be my stylist since she was familiar with closures. ,  ,

Waiting Area- Comfy, they had a nice magazine selection with current issues, I hate when I grab an issue of Essence Magaize from 3 years ago.

Overall- I got a "professional" vibe. I felt like the salon was organized and they were about their business in a friendly way.

3:20pm-I arrived the salon  (I was a walk-in, I did not make an appointment). Spoke with the receptionist and sat in the waiting area.

3:36pm- I was escorted to the braiding area by the receptionist and introduced to Trevor who was in the middle of braiding another clients hair. Tiffanie came over and introduced herself and we spoke about what I wanted done and I showed her pictures of the style I wanted. I read my book while I was waiting and Tiffanie noticed that Trevor wasn't finished with his client so she braided my hair instead of waiting for Trevor.

3:46pm- Braiding started. She made a great base and applied a net. The salon has nets you don't have to bring your own. I've always had to provide my own weaving nets.

4:24pm- The install process began. I used my new 22″ Wagman's Perfectress Hair and closure.  My stylist wasn't familiar with Wagman's but she knows a lot about preminum hair.  She knows that all remy hair isn't virgin etc. It was refreshing to meet a stylist thats up to date She didn't pass it around for everybody to touch and see like the last place I went to. We had a really great conversation about hair extensions and different types of extensions.

When she was done and ready to cut and style my hair she asked me if I preferred a razor or sisscor cut. I personally like the way the hair falls with a razor cut. She also asked me if I wanted to where it straight or wavy. I decided on wavy so she cut some layers and then took me to the sink to wet my hair to bring out the waves, after that I sat under the dryer for about 5 minutes. We agreed that the waves and curls come out better when air-dried but she didn't want me to walk out of the door with a soaked head.

I really only sat under the dryer for about 5-7mins. She set the timer and didn't disappear. Yes, y'all. I've been neglected under a dryer before, I think thats why I hate them so much.

6:50pm - Paid my bill and then was finished :) They take cash and credit and debit cards. I didn't have to leave "collateral" with somebody and go try to find an ATM.

Price: $100. I didn't get a basic $50 sew-in. I got the Icon Package which is a full weave with a closure, net and a detailed cut and style. I also like my tracks sew-in close together with very little space in between which cost an extra $15.  There pricing is easy to understand and was explained up front so there was no sticker shock or confusion. Their price list is on their website. This is an example of what my client card looked like.



Overall: I left the salon impressed and happy. I felt like the environment was nice and that the lines of communication between the staff and client were crystal clear.

Would I go back? Yes, since I meshed will with Tiffanie I would try to make an appointment with her, she also gave me her name on one of the salons busniess cards because she sometimes works in the Buckhead Salon. I feel like I would also go back if Tiffanie was unavailable. I also love the location its like 2 miles from where I live. So I didn't have to deal with Atlanta traffic.

Staining/Doctoring My Wagman's Perfectress Closure Piece.

Hey Y'all

I wanted to share how I prepped my Wagman's Closure before installing it. I wanted to stain the "scalp" a bit so it would appear to be close to my real scalp color. I decided to use a closure because my leave out hair needs a break.

A closure is usually used to give a full weave (no hair left out) a more natural appearance.

That's the packaging in case anyone is curious...

Out of the box (un-parted)....

There is no extra lace on their closures. I found that to be a little odd at first but it doesn't really matter... I planned on placing it behind my hairline. So I did not need the extra lace or silk. I would have folded it back if it was there.

I've wrote a more detailed post on staining a closure piece before, this isn't really a tutorial, more of a show and tell and update. :)

Before I stained the closure I washed it with Perfectress Shampoo and Conditioner. I don't really like to wash the closure after its stained. I do wash it when its on my head but I don't put any shampoo directly on the "scalp" part. (I'm sorry if that sounds weird)

I use Black Tea to stain my closure this time. I wasn't in the mood to mess with RIT Dye because last time I ended up with a purplish looking closure and it was a project to correct it.

This box was like $1.79  at Target and it came with 24 tea bags.

Make your "tea" in a shallow bowl. Let it marinate...

I used about 10 tea bags.. I'm real extra...I actually should of used a little more water. I forgot that the tea bags will soak up a lot of the water.

I use hair clips to pin the hair up and I let it soak in the water for 30min to an 1hr. I found it easier using a shallow bowl.

Let it soak (I say marinate, lol). Find something to do! Clean, do laundry, dance around the house, give yourself a pedicure.." A watched closure doesn't stain" XD

After a nice long soak I rinse the closure in cold water. Cold water sets the stain. Then I re-heat the water in the microwave and throw some new tea bags in and repeat.

I let the closure piece air dry after the second cold water rinse. I don't wash it until its completely dry. When I do wash it I wash the hair only to get the tea off of the hair. The tea does not hurt the closure at all. It might smell like a tea but thats the only adverse effect that I have experienced and I've done this 5 or 6 times.

Unfortunately I could not get a clear "after shot". It's not a dramatic difference but its stained enough for me. My scalp is very light, probably because it rarely sees the sun. Out of all of the closures that I've dealt with this one was the easiest for my to stain. It "took" to my satisfaction after two rounds. I've had to repeat the process up four times in the past.

If your trying this for the first time let the closure air dry completely before re-soaking. Also if it looks really dark don't have a heart attack, it will look a little darker wet.

Once the stain is set I don't find it fades much over time.

Wagmans Perfectress Indian Hair Extentions Unboxing & Initial Thoughts

Hey Y'all,

I made a short-ish video on my inital thoughts about Wagman's Perfectress Premium Indian Hair Extensions. I ordered two 40z, 22" bundles of their Perfectress Natural Body extensions. I selected natural brown. I always purchase natural black or off black and I felt like taking a chance and trying something different.

Shipping was pretty quick. I placed my order on a Friday and had my hair by the following Tuesday. I forgot to order the closure and I ordered it on a Monday and received it on Thursday. They ship from PA and I live in Atlanta so shipping time can vary based on where you are having it shipped to. It was shipped to me UPS Ground. I did not get special extra shipping.

I will be posting updates about this hair frequently and following up to let you know what I really think about this hair. I want to get one thing out of the way right now. My opinions will be 100% mine and 100% honest. I will not lie or fabricate the truth about how I really feel about the hair because I received it complementary for review.

Personally I feel that lying to my readers over 8oz of hair and a closure isn't worth it. It becomes a lose-lose situation. Bad karma for me (for telling lies) and without feedback a company can't improve their product if there is an issue. I am not being paid for my reviews by the company.

I plan to update frequently because I see a lot of girls reviewing hair and they only do 1 review without following up and sometimes I wondered "what happened" did the hair turn into a rats nest?? So I decided that I will use this hair as an opportunity to do a long term comprehensive review from start to finish.

If it tangles like rabid dog hair I will tell you. If it sheds like a Golden Retriever I will tell you and be honest. I've been a customer of Wagman's in the past and have purchased hair from them before (Malaysian Hair) with my own money and have posted my opinions and photos on this blog.

So I hope we are all on the same page and I hope that you will join me on my Perfectress Journey. Why am I calling it a "journey"? I really don't know but it sounds fun and I'm  a dork.

How I Organize My Hair Stash

Hey Y'all!!!

I was looking through my hair stash the other day and I realized how un-organized it's gotten over the past year. I've had intentions to clean it up a bit for a while but never got around to actually doing it. So I decided to do a complete re-organizing and "inventory".

I apoligize in advance for the huge watermarks on my pictures. I've had pictures stolen from my blog before for commerical use by shady hair vendors and "stylists" so that's why my watermarks are huge in this particular post. I think I'm a nice approachable person so just ask me if you would like to use my photos. I'll probably say yes. If you steal your just going to piss me off...

There really is no right or wrong way to do this. Everyone has their own way organizing things so do what works best for you.

Here's What You Will Need:

1. Shampoo,  Conditioner or Deep Conditioner Treatment &  Leave In Conditioner

2. Wide Tooth Comb

3. Small hair elastics

4. Gallon Plastic Bags & a sharpie marker

5. Tape Measure

6. Towels or skirt hangers (I didn't have enough skirt hangers on hand to hang and air dry for this project so I spread towels on my carpet).

I started out by washing and deep conditioning everything in my stash. I didn't intend on washing everything because most of it was clean and some of the hair is new/un-used. I had some hair in my "to wash" pile so I just washed everything. I figured I'd start of fresh.. I washed each bundle/different hair type separately so nothing got mixed up.

I find it easier to wash and condition the hair in bundles. I band together the bundle that I want to wash with a small rubber elastic.

Gently squeeze out any excess water. Be gentle. I like to wrap a towel around the bundle to get out the excess water.

After removing the excess water sprayed leave-in conditioner on the hair and gently de-tangled with a wide tooth comb. Then I removed the elastics and then laid it out on towels to air dry.

After everything was dry. It took a few hours. I re-bundled the hair in bundles according to origin, type and length. I like to use these hair elastics because they don't tangle in the hair or leave annoying band marks.



 

Re-bundled and organized.

I bundled it and then wrote the following on the plastic bags.

 

Vendor Name (if applicable)

Hair Origin (i.e. Indian/Malaysian)

Hair Type- (i.e. wavy, straight, curly)

Length (i.e. 16" or 18"-20'')

The I placed the bundle in the bag and smushed all of the air out, then folded the excess part of the bag so only the label showed.

Then I organized the bags by type and length and put every in a plastic bin thing and then put  in my secret hiding place.

Re-organizing all my extensions made me realize that I indeed have an addiction. I think I may start to part with some of it. I really don't know what I'm saving it for. I just need to bring myself to part with it.

Newbie Virgin Hair Extension/Weave Advice-What to do with Your New Hair Upon Recipet

Hey Y'all!

If you've taken the leap into the world of ordering hair extensions from an online vendor, there are few things you should do immediately upon receipt of the  hair. You want to do these things sooner then later so if there is an issue you can make any returns or exchanges as soon as possible.

First and most importantly make sure you received what you ordered. Check what you received against the packing slip or invoice. Make sure that if you ordered curly that you revived curly. Also if you find any major faults or discrepancies take a few photos with a camera and enable the time and date stamp feature. This can help expedite any communication with the vendor as they can "see what your" talking about.

*I used random 4oz bundle of hair I have in my "stash". Photos are just examples to help illustrate this post.

Measure ~ Measure the length of the hair. Take a tape measure and double check.  (I couldn't find my cloth/soft tape measure in my sewing/art stuff so I broke out the real deal).

Curly and very wavy hair are measured when stretched.

Weigh ~ If you have a scale that measures ounces weigh the bundle(s) of hair to make sure that you received the amount that you ordered. I bought this food scale at IKEA for like $4.99, it's not supposed to be used for trade (its not an official scale), but it works. I adjusted the scale so it measures zero when the bowl is on top and empty, of course. I don't have time or the patience to do math equations so it's easier for me to know that the when the scale is on the bowl it is at zero.

 

Check for Nits ~ I said nits not lice! Most hair extensions hair come from 3rd world countries and sometimes 3rd world stuff happens in the hair world. This happens on occasion. Especially if your dealing with vendors oversees or a vendor here that might not take the extra steps to remove them prior to shipping. Lice are parasites and cannot survive on hair that isn't attached to a "host". Nits are just the shells. Yeah it's gross, but it's not the biggest deal. If your totally disgusted contact your vendor ASAP and make arrangements for an exchange. If your bold, contact the vendor to let them know, and break out your fine tooth comb and get the nits out.

Wash & Condition ~ This is one of the last steps of your "inspection" In most cases you cannot return the hair once "altered" meaning washed, installed, etc.. You really want to do this for sanitary reasons. Also see how the hair reacts to washing. If you ordered curly or wavy hair you should really see the curls/waves "pop" after washing.

Seal ~ Seal the wefts this step is optional. I made a tutorial here.

Newbie Virgin Hair Extension/Weave Question~How Many Ounces is A Pack of Hair?

Hey Y'all

When making the transition from BSS (Beauty Supply Store) Hair to purchasing virgin hair from a vendor. One of the first questions I'm often asked "Hair comes in  "packs"! Why is this vendor talking about ounces?

Vendors sell hair by the ounce. In most cases vendors sell hair in "bundles" containing 3.6oz -4oz (most sell in 4oz bundles).

The formula is actually quite simple (I run from math so if I say its easy then it really is).

1 Pack of BSS Hair = 1 bundle of hair from a vendor.

So if you use 2 packs, order two 4oz. bundles= 8oz.

If your flirting with 18" or longer order 3 bundles order 12oz. or 3 bundles. Longer length wefts are usually shorter in width with because the hair is longer and weighs a little more.

Budget Friendly Shampoos & Conditioners for Virgin Hair Extensions

Hey Y'all!

I often get asked from friends and readers who are new to wearing virgin hair extensions. "What's the best shampoo/conditioner to use? " "Do I have to buy expensive shampoos and conditioners"? I will share some shampoos and conditioners that I really like and worked well on both my Virgin Indian and Virgin Malaysian Extensions and all the other leftovers and scraps in my stash. :)

I want to keep this list affordable and name some of the less expensive shampoos and conditioners. Every product that I list can be purchased at Target, Wal-Mart, most drugstores or Sally's (depending on where you live, if not try Amazon.com). I will keep this list under $10.00 per product and most of these products are in the $5-$7 range.

Virgin hair costs a lot of money and it worth every penny, in my opinion. If you take care of it it will last for multiple installs.  I've re-used my 26" Wagman's Malaysian Extensions 6 times. I'm about to go hard in the paint and rock it some more. I've lost some length from trimming and cutting, but it's going strong.

Around the time when I purchased my first hand tied wefts I was all about using the most expensive and the "best" shampoos and conditioners. I was also going through a no sulfate shampoo phase. Now I'm not highly concerned about sulfates vs. non sulfates. I've been down both roads and have personally seen no differences.

My favorite shampoo is Pantene Clarifying Shampoo. I love using this shampoo because I curl my hair a lot and I use alot of hair spray and clarifying shampoos are great for removing product buildup. I've heard that this product may be discontinued (explains way I couldn't find it). When I ran out I picked up Suave's Clarifying Shampoo.

Suave Humectrics ~ This shampoo and conditioner is great if your looking to replenish moisture if your hair is feeling dry.

Creme of Nature ~ This is one of my favorites. Great affordable choice if your looking for a certified organic shampoo and conditioner.

Herbal Essences Hello Hydration Conditioner ~ I love this conditioner. It always leaves my hair super soft and it smells great. I haven't tried the shampoo so I can't co-sign on it. (I posted a picture of the shampoo just so you can see what it looks like, the conditioner looks the same)

Cantu Shea Butter -Leave In Conditioning Repair Cream ~ This is my favorite product to deep condition my hair (my natural hair and extensions) with. I put it in my hair put a cheap plastic shower cap on it and finish my shower business then rinse. Or if I want to give my hair some extra lovin' I'll leave it on with a shower cap for an hour then rinse.

 

 

Infusium 23 Leave-In Treatment ~ This product claims to Infuses the hair cuticle to help nourish and restore healthy texture and strengthens against damage. I just use it as a quick spray on leave-in when my hair is still wet.
